Closed geothermal: harness the energy beneath your feet
At WellDoneDrill, we’re experts in closed geothermal drilling in Belgium. We install vertical geothermal probes that capture the natural heat present in the subsoil. This sustainable, inexhaustible thermal energy powers your geothermal heat pump, heating your home in winter and cooling it in summer.
Less consumption, less CO₂ and more savings. : closed geothermal energy is the intelligent solution for a sustainable future.
How does closed-probe geothermal energy work?
Closed-probe geothermal energy is a technology that harnesses the thermal energy stored in the ground to heat and cool your home.
Here’s how it works:
- Geothermal probe drilling Vertical geothermal probes are installed at a depth of 100 to 200 meters. They contain a heat-transfer fluid circulating in a closed loop.
- Geothermal heat pump The fluid absorbs heat from the ground and transmits it to the geothermal heat pump installed in your building. The heat pump converts the captured energy to power your heating system and producedomestic hot water.
- Natural air conditioning By reversing the process, the heat in your home is evacuated towards the ground. evacuated to the groundproviding a natural and natural and economical air-conditioning system.

The soil, an inexhaustible source of energy
Closed geothermal energy, a sustainable, high-performance solution, harnesses the sun’s natural heat to power the heating and cooling systems of homes and buildings. With WellDoneDrill, you can harness this renewable energy source and reduce your energy consumption over the long term.
What does closed geothermal drilling involve?
Geothermal drilling involves drilling vertical wells to install closed geothermal probes. These probes, made from durable synthetic materials, contain a heat-transfer fluid (water or a mixture of water and mono-propylene glycol) that circulates in a closed circuit. This water extracts heat from the ground and transfers it to your heat pump system. The length and depth of the wells are calculated when sizing the system, to optimize energy efficiency.
What are the advantages of vertical geothermal probes?
Vertical geothermal probes require little space and are not subject to climatic conditions. In fact, once you go beyond a depth of 5 to 10 meters, the ground temperature remains constant, at around 12°C. The heat extracted therefore remains stable throughout the year, even in the coldest weather. What's more, since they harness a renewable energy source, these systems are both economical and environmentally friendly.
How does closed geothermal home cooling work?
In addition to heating your home, geothermal energy can also be used to cool your space during the summer months, thanks to the principle of natural cooling or passive cooling. This process uses the constant temperature of the ground to lower the temperature of your building without the need for intensive use of your heat pump. The heat inside your home is captured and transferred to the cooler ground, cooling your rooms.
What are the advantages of closed geothermal cooling?
A traditional air-conditioning system consumes a lot of electricity and uses chemical refrigerants. In contrast, geothermal cooling is a natural, silent solution that reduces your energy consumption while guaranteeing optimum thermal comfort. This environmentally-friendly approach enables you to maintain a pleasant temperature in your home, even in the hottest weather.
- High energy efficiency Thanks to the constant temperature of the groundwater, this geothermal system offers a very high level of efficiency, particularly suited to large buildings.
- Ecological solution By exploiting a renewable resource and minimizing CO₂ emissions, geothermal energy is a sustainable, environmentally-friendly solution.
- Heating and cooling This system can be used for both heating in winter and cooling in summer, thanks to the reversal of the process.
What is the depth of geothermal drilling with a closed probe?
The depth of the geothermal well is defined when sizing your system. Geothermal wells drilled by WellDoneDrill usually reach a depth of between 100 and 200 meters, depending on your building's energy requirements and the local geology.
What is the efficiency of a closed-probe geothermal well?
The power extracted from a well varies from 35 to 55 Watts per metre of borehole, depending on the nature of the soil and the surrounding geology. This performance enables you to effectively meet your heating and cooling needs, while optimizing the energy efficiency of your geothermal system.
